Modern life can leave us feeling overwhelmed, stressed and tense.

Tension in the muscles and fascia can lead to tension in the mind and vice versa.

Our bodies are only designed to be under stress for short periods.

The fight or flight mechanism is extremely useful as a survival mechanism - but when it is left "switched on" over long periods it can wreak havoc on our physical and mental health.

When our nervous system is under strain it affects every other system in the body - the immune system, the digestive system, the endocrine system  for example are all left functioning below par.

Of course stress is not responsible for all ill health but it can certainly contribute to illness, pain and chronic conditions and make recovery slower.

Massage and other holistic therapies are an antidote to stress.

We can't avoid stress entirely but we do need to learn to manage how it affects us and allow time to get away from it and truly relax in body and mind.

Hippocrates famously said that "The way to health is to have an aromatic bath and a scented massage every day" - a daily treatment may not be pactical but you can invest in your health and give yourself the gift of a series of treatments or a regular monthly massage.
